Welcome!
Hi there — I am so glad you’re here!
I am Mary Ann, an elementary assistant principal, mom, daughter, wife, friend and lifelong learner navigating life one school bell, car line, and coffee at a time.
This space, I’m the AP, It’s Me, was born from two things: my deep love of education and leadership, and my passion for connecting with others about the real parts of this journey — whether in the halls of a Title I STEAM school, in aisle of the grocery store, or in our digital community.
A Little About Me
I am currently the assistant principal at a dynamic Title I STEAM elementary school in beautiful Savannah, GA — where we believe that every student is a problem-solver, a creator, and a change-maker.
I am a proud Georgia Southern grad (Go Eagles!). During my time at Georgia Southern, I was blessed to collect friendships that I have shaped who I am today from Student Government Association, to working in the Dean of Student’s office, to being a proud Zeta Tau Alpha and those late nights in the basement of Henderson (or on the porch at Dingus Magees!). I have worked in both rural and urban public schools to implement technology, STEM and STEAM, specifically in underserved communities. Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to help students create partnerships with CBS, Marvel Movies, Gulfstream, Savannah Technical College, NASA, SCAD Savannah Film Festival — and work on student films that have earned both domestic and international awards. Watching students find their voice and their why is one of my greatest joys.
At home, I’m married to a PGA golf professional (which explains why there are always more golf tees than pens in our house). We’re raising a vibrant, kind, and hilarious elementary-aged two-legged daughter and a sweet and mischievous four-legged (terrier) daughter. They both keep us on our toes and remind us daily of what really matters.
I’m the product of a sawmill manager dad and a probation officer-turned PTA president mom. Neither one of my grandfathers completed middle school. Growing up all over the south east United States, you may here my bad southern accent before you see me enter the room. I like reality tv on a bad day, crime shows on a good day, and queso and margaritas any day.
